If a idiot like me decides to wear a seat belt, I bet you will too...
A new lease on life, after a decade of campaigns to get people to wear seat belts and keep children away from air bags, progress is plausible.
Researchers say front-seat occupants use of seat belts is at 82 percent, up from 61 percent. And children too small for seat belts are for the most part placed in the back seat, away from air bags.
Go figure, a new study by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, based on 2004's records of fatal crashes, shows that young men, pick up truck drivers and drivers on rural roads are more likely than others to be unbelted. The findings have resulted in a $31 million advertising campaign in English and Spanish, aimed at young men and rural pick up drivers.
The gains aren't all they're cracked up to be; safety experts say that progress is still needed in persuading people to use seat belts and in curbing drunken driving. A glimmer of hope, some say the most promising safety gains in the near future may come from computerized crash avoidance systems. Kporchhaulling.
Safety tip of the day: for various reasons, drivers will have the rightside tires on their vehicles drop off the right side of the roadway onto the shoulder or grass. When this happens the driver will panic and yank the steering wheel back to the left, causing the car to go out of control and into other lanes of traffic. If the tires of your vehicle drop off the right side of the roadway, gradually slow down, maintain control of your vehicle, and when your speed has been reduced to a manageable level, turn back left onto the roadway at a time and place it can be done safely.
