If I could explain how to improve your driving, save your life, or someone else's life, would you be interested?
Say your prayers, drivers today have more distractions than ever before, causing them to take their eyes off the road and their hands off the wheel.
It's a Pandora's Box, auto companies are turning cars into cocoons of communication systems and high tech entertainment. Talking on cellphones and typing text messages while driving has already led to bans in many states.
There's a sucker born every minute, some drivers are packing their car interiors with G.P.S. navigation screens, portable DVD players and even computer keyboards and printers.
State Senator Carl L. Marcellino of New York learned this firsthand while riding in a cab in Mami--- the driver was watching a boxing match on a television mounted on the dashboard.
"I can understand a monitor in the rear, but up front it is a different world," said Mr. Marcellino, who sponsored a bill last year to ban all display generating devices in the driver's view. New York already has a law against TV sets in the front seat.
Hit the nail on the head, electronics is turning into the demise of driving. I guess what I'm saying is enough is enough. At some point we need to say no more distractions.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration estimates that 80 percent of vehicle crashes and 65 percent of close calls are caused in part by driver distraction. Kporchhaulling
Safety tip of the day: if you've heard it once, you've heard it a thousand times. Drivers are required to have their headlights on from one half hour before sunset to one half hour after sunrise. Besides being necessary for seeing the roadway, having your headlights on allows other drivers to see your vehicle approaching and could possibly prevent accidents.
