Tired Of High Gasoline Prices? They May Be Saving Lives...

I have just finished reading an article from a leading columnist, and I have some exciting news for you, about lives being saved...

Get to the bottom of it, highway fatalities dropped by 9 percent nationally from 2007 to 2008, a federal agency found; furthermore, they felled to their lowest level in nearly 50 years.
Go figure; why did New England see the nation's steepest drop in such deaths, even as three of its states, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Rhode Island, reported some of the lowest seat belt use. But get this; data from the National Highway traffic Safety Administration showed a decline in deaths of 14 percent in New England.
Say what you will, but the rise in gasoline prices last year, I'll assume is why the overall decline, because people ended up driving less. The number of vehicle miles traveled dropped by about 3.6 percent nationally, the safety agency found, after climbing for several decades.
But officials in several New England states also credited stepped-up safety programs, for young drivers, and enforcement of laws against drunken driving. Kporchhaulling.

Safety tip of the day: I hate to say this but... another type of driving problem is of drivers operating their cars while under the influence of prescription medication. Many times the driver's doctor-prescribed medication can have an effect on their ability to drive equal to, or worse than, being intoxicated. Driving while impaired under the influence of medication is just as illegal as drinking and driving and has the same penalties. Kporchhaulling.
